NECO have just released 2024 SSCE results
The National Examinations Council has announced the outcomes of the June/July 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination, revealing that 60.55 percent of candidates achieved five credits or more in both English Language and Mathematics.
Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, the Registrar of NECO, shared this information during a press briefing at the NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday.
Prof. Wushishi reported that a total of 1,376,423 candidates registered for the examination, which included 706,950 males and 669,473 females.
He provided additional details regarding the results: “A total of 1,367,736 candidates participated in the examination, consisting of 702,112 males and 665,624 females.
“The number of candidates who obtained five credits and above, including English and Mathematics, stands at 828,284, which equates to 60.55%.
“Furthermore, the total number of candidates with five credits and above, regardless of English and Mathematics, is 1,147,597, representing 83.90%.”
In terms of examination malpractice, Wushishi noted a significant decline in reported cases compared to the previous year.
He stated: “The number of candidates implicated in various forms of malpractice in 2024 is 8,437, a decrease from 12,030 in 2023, reflecting a reduction of 30.1%.”
However, the registrar disclosed that 40 schools were identified as having engaged in mass cheating during the examination.
“During the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination, 40 schools were found to have participated in whole-school (mass) cheating across 17 states. These institutions will be summoned to the Council for discussions, after which appropriate sanctions will be enforced. One school in Ekiti has been recommended for de-recognition due to mass cheating in two core subjects and one Science subject.
“Additionally, 21 supervisors have been recommended for blacklisting due to inadequate supervision, collusion, abandonment of duty, extortion, intoxication, and negligence across 12 states.”
He encouraged candidates who took the examination to visit the NECO website to check their results.
