Nollywood actress Toyin Adegbola, widely recognized as Toyin Tomato, has counseled women to steer clear of divorce, asserting that true equality is absent in the institution of marriage.

In an Instagram live session held on Monday, Toyin Tomato encouraged women to stay with their unfaithful spouses while being vigilant about the risks of sexually transmitted infections.

She highlighted that departing from a marriage could result in future regrets, particularly when children are involved in important life milestones.

My spouse has been away for the past year, leaving me feeling abandoned, and I am seeking a divorce. I have lost interest in my 24-year marriage to my husband. It is essential to maintain respect within a marriage; one should strive to be their partner’s most ardent supporter. —Ijeoma Okonkwo, Kcee’s wife, entrepreneur.

Regardless of the challenges you may face in your marriage, it is crucial to refrain from considering leaving your husband or abandoning his home. Such actions may lead to regret, particularly when significant events arise in your children’s lives, necessitating your return.

As a woman who has endured hardships within the marriage, it is important to recognize that leaving may diminish your prospects of finding another partner. It is advisable to remain in your husband’s home and encourage him to take measures to safeguard himself, she advised.

Toyin recounted the experience of a friend who purchases condoms for her husband during his visits to Nigeria, emphasizing that women must come to terms with the reality of infidelity.

Furthermore, she posed a rhetorical question: “Would a woman visiting Nigeria expect her husband to buy her condoms?” She highlighted the disparity in rights between genders, asserting her commitment to voicing this issue.

In her final thoughts, Toyin called upon men to regard their wives as their responsibility and to treat them with kindness. She stated, “Men, please consider us as your burden and view us as your first child. We have also embraced you as our first child, for despite the wisdom men may possess, they can also exhibit folly. What we wish for you to perceive is what you will ultimately see.”
