The often-criticized winger netted a brace in a comfortable victory for Dorival Jr’s team.

Throughout much of his tenure as Brazil’s manager, Dorival Jr has been subjected to scrutiny regarding his attacking strategy. However, on Tuesday, he may have discovered a solution. Raphinha, enjoying a strong start with his club, also made a significant contribution to his national team by scoring twice and posing a constant threat in a convincing 4-0 triumph over Peru.

The Barcelona player secured a brace, with two late goals sealing the match and leading Brazil to their second consecutive victory.

The match was lively for extended periods, as Peru made every effort to thwart Brazil’s attacks before they could develop, resulting in numerous tackles from both teams. Raphinha opened the scoring just before halftime, converting a penalty after a lengthy VAR review confirmed that a Peruvian defender had handled the ball in the area. Rodrygo could have doubled the lead shortly after, but his chip was well-saved by the goalkeeper.

Raphinha added a second from the penalty spot early in the second half, this time following a much clearer foul.

Andreas Pereira provided the Selecao with a moment of brilliance, executing a superb volley to direct Luiz Henrique’s cross into the bottom corner. Henrique soon added another goal, taking advantage of space afforded by a disorganized Peruvian defense before calmly placing the ball into the bottom corner. While challenges remain for Dorival, consecutive victories will alleviate some pressure, at least temporarily.

Goal rates Brazil’s players from Field BRB Mane Garrincha.

The Goalkeeper & Defence

Ederson (6/10):

Successfully managed his crosses and had minimal saves to execute. Overall, it was a relatively uneventful evening for him.

Vanderson (6/10):

Did not venture forward frequently, but it was unnecessary. Peru did not pose significant threats down his flank.

Marquinhos (7/10):

Displayed impressive recovery speed with two or three well-timed interventions, and he was rarely outmatched in aerial duels. A commendable defensive performance.

Gabriel (6/10):

The match did not require much from him, which ultimately highlighted his limitations as a passer.

Abner Vinicius (7/10):

Peru aimed to exploit his wing, yet he effectively contained their advances. He distributed the ball forward efficiently and won more tackles than he conceded.
